Earth Day

Earth Day.

I am a bird.
I spread my arms and curl my legs
and launch myself onto a mighty wind.
I can fly.

I am strong.
The Earth is full of perils
but I am made to survive.
I respect both predator and prey.

I am an otter.
Slick with mud,
I splash and play.
I love water best.

I am a mountain lion.
The world is full of peaks
for me to climb and conquer.
From the summit I am humbled by all I see.

I am an explorer.
The world is full of curious things
Hemlock groves and sparkling springs.
I want to experience it all.

I am a deer.
Swift and and able
I run and I leap.
The silence bubbles with internal laughter.

I am a scientist.
I approach the Earth with intense curiosity.
Often I stumble
but I am always learning.

I am a friend.
I will hold you close when the world feels scary.
And in peace we will laugh and sing.
Under the warmth of one sun we grow together.

And I thank the Earth
for her food and shelter
For her most beautiful and most terrible qualities.
Because she allows for our lives.

Today I celebrate the Earth,
for every day I am blessed to be on it.
For all it teaches me and provides,
and I will remember to treat it kindly.

My home
and all she allows me to be.
