Second Ultrasound and Gender Revealed

Robbie and I went to have our second ultra sound yesterday (18 weeks and 2 days pregnant). Despite being sleepy and hungry (we forgot to pack snacks), Meo was very good for the two hours we were there. He read a lot of books with Daddy, looked at the baby and said "Aw, baby!", and ran up and down the halls with me when I had to walk to get the baby to change positions. He did get a little worried when they tipped my chair way back so my feet was in the air and was crying "Mama, Mama, Mama!" It took a bit to convince him that I was still okay.

Waiting room

Everything with the baby looks perfect. The heart looks healthy, the brain is developing beautifully, there are 10 fingers and 10 toes, and everything is the right proportion. The baby was hanging out upside down in the breech position, so it was tricky to get some of the measurements but eventually the baby cooperated.

Probably the most exciting part (although knowing we had a healthy baby was a huge relief) was finding out what the sex of the baby is. Can you tell?

We're having another boy! Meo is going to have a little brother, and I am going to be swimming in a sea of testosterone for the rest of my days. I guess it's my lot in life to be surrounded by beautiful men (yes, our cats are both male too). We are both very happy to have another little boy. Now we just have to think of a name!

Second Ultrasound and the Gender Revealed

On Monday I had my second ultrasound. This time Robbie, his mom, and my two moms all came to come see the baby which was special and fun.
Us waiting in the waiting room
This ultrasound lasted about an hour. There were two doctors, a male and a women that he seemed to be training. During the ultrasound they were taking very close looks at vital organs such as the brain and heart, as well as taking measurements of the baby's limbs and searching for gender. During this ultrasound I was unfortunately experiencing a lot of morning sickness, and after about 20 minutes of having my stomach pushed on really hard I couldn't take it anymore and had to trot off to the bathroom to throw up my breakfast and all the water I drank (I thought I needed a full bladder this time so I went overboard with drink prior to the appointment- but it turns out I didn't need a full bladder and I drank myself sick for nothing). After I got sick though, I felt great and was able to enjoy the whole experience a lot more. It was wonderful to see the baby again, and great to see that it was growing and healthy. Robbie was joking around when we saw the baby's nose saying that it looks like it has his big nose. The doctor said that everything looks perfectly normal and great. About 10 minutes before he was finished looking around, I had to run off to the bathroom again. But this time I didn't have to vomit. Instead I squatted and leaned against the wall and start sweating suddenly. I thought I was going to faint. Apparently my body was not in the mood for an ultrasound anymore. I felt pretty silly having to keep running off. But one nice thing about about getting up repeatedly was that the baby moved around as well (it was doing cartwheels in my uterus) and so the doctor was able to see the baby from new improved view points.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the whole appointment was finding out the gender of the baby. The doctor focused in on the opening between the baby's legs and asked us if we had any guesses as to what it was. Robbie saw and very excitedly bursted out, "I think it's a boy" followed by the doctor saying "I think you are right!" Right before either of them said anything I had a strong feeling that it was a boy, but I didn't want to say anything...I had this weird feeling that I could somehow change the outcome. But we are having a baby boy! Yay! We are going to name him Mattimeo Robinson and call him Meo for short...but we still have to come up with a middle name. We are so excited that having a healthy little boy. Robbie really wanted a son, so he is super excited! Here are some pictures from the ultrasound, including a gender photo.

Happy future parents

We are very happy that we know we are having a baby boy. It is making it easier for us to bond with him because now he seems more real. It's easier for us to talk to my tummy now that we can call him by his name. I think maybe for our next baby we will keep it a surprise, but it was so much fun finding out with all of our moms this time and knowing that there will be so many other things to be surprised about on Meo's birthday I am glad we allowed ourselves this little indulgence this time around.

Tonight we had a fun little revealing party hosted by our good friend Lindsay. I had to wait all week not to tell any of our friends what we were having (which was so hard!) so that they could be surprised tonight. It was so much fun, Lindsay made some cupcakes and injected them with blue frosting. The we covered up the evidence with white frosting. It was so much fun to watch everyone bit into the cupcakes and find out what the baby is going to be! It was worth the wait to be there and celebrate all together. Thanks Lindsay!
