We've finished getting the boys bedrooms ready at this point and wanted to share the end results. First, Link's nursery:
He has a thermal, black out curtain to keep the room warm and dark, just like we have in the other bedrooms.
Link now has Meo's bureau (which was Robbie's when he was little). The painting on the wall is one of Monet's Waterlily's; one of my favorite paintings.
I found these great posters about Maine ecology for very inexpensive. Link has one about amphibians and one about turtles in his room.
Link acquired Meo's white cubby as it suited his room better. It is important to us that his toys and books are low and accessible to him.
This was Meo's crib. We set it up just in case Link will use it on occasion, or as a safe place to put him down if I need to attend to Meo or something. Meo hardly used his crib, but it was nice to have if I had to run to the bathroom or something...he loved looking at the mobile (for a few minutes at least hehe).
A lot of the stuff in Link's room was Meo's when he was a baby, but all the new turtle bedding, wall hangings and stuff like that were genrously purchased for us by our family. Thank you so much for helping us to make Link's room perfect; we feel so spoiled.
Meo's room has changed a little bit too through the process of preparing for Link.
Since Link has Meo's bureau, I gave Meo my bureau (which was originally my mother's when she was a little girl), and purchased a bureau for myself from a friend. So while it seems like we have a lot of new furniture, a lot of it is in fact very, very old. Meo also has a couple Maine ecology posters: birds of the forest and mammals of Maine.
Since we used Meo's mattress in Link's crib, we had to get Meo a bigger mattress. And since we still lay in bed next to him to put him to bed at night, we decided to get a twin mattress so we would be more comforable. Robbie may end up sleeping with Meo at night sometimes depending on how well Link sleeps at night, so it's nice to have a big, comfy bed for our Meosaur. The mattress we chose for him doesn't have any chemicals in it, is dual-sided, waterproof, and eco-friendly (Sopora Delux Twin Mattress). We obviously had to get him new sheets and a comforter too since the crib sized ones wouldn't fit anymore. Meo also has a Monet poster on his wall now as we feel it is important to have a least one important work of art in each of their rooms (The Bodmer Oak, Fontainebleau Forest).
We got Meo a wooden shelf unit to replace the white one we gave to Link.
And we finally put glowing stars up on Meo's ceiling. This is something I planned on doing before Meo was even born, but we never got around to it. We arranged the stars in the shape of his birth constellation: Leo. We will do the same for Link with the left over stars, but we have to wait until we know what his birth constellation is going to be. It's difficult to see in a photograph, but here are Meo's stars.
I think Meo is quite comfortable in his big boy room, and he enjoys spending time in his baby brother's room as well. Here is Meo sitting on his big boy bed with the little chipmunk he started sleeping with a couple weeks ago.

Painting Link's Nursery
So originally we thought we would have Link's nursery be arctic themed, but after a while I changed my mind and we decided to turn his room into a pond. So we bought some blue and white paint, I drew in some waves with chalk, and we got started. It was a lot of work, and I'm really grateful to Robbie who did most of the painting himself. I did some of the trim and detail work, and then the painting of the sand and pond weeds, but Robbie did the brunt of it because my back kept aching. I am also grateful to Meo, who was very cooperative during the whole process and enjoyed helping put tape on the walls and doing a little painting himself.
Finally, I am thankful for my sweet, snuggly kitties who kept me company during many days of painting.
Without further ado here is the finished pond themed paint job:

Mattimeo's Forest Bedroom
As we have been preparing Link's nursery, I realized I never took the time to share Mattimeo's forest room. But first I want to share a little bit about where we got the idea for the themes for the rooms in our house. When Robbie and I were on our honeymoon in Acadia National Park six years ago, we were hiking up in the alpine zone admiring all the different shades of lichen and the overall beauty that surrounded us. We thought how wonderful it would be to have a room in our house one day that was all the colors of the mountain top. Then we thought, why not have each room of our house be it's own ecosystem, as a way to celebrate this beautiful earth. So we decided when we got a house, we would make each room into it's own ecosystem. We began by making Meo's room into a temperate deciduous forest like we have here in Maine. You may recall that in the apartment we lived in when Meo was first born had a forest themed nursery (http://ouvrezvosyeuxjdr.blogspot.com/2011/07/nursery.html). At our new house, we have a lot more space and freedom so we were able to create a more Montessori style toddler room. Here are some photos as the room is now:
Meo's toddler sized bed on the ground, with a white pine I painted on the wall. The color of his room is "guacamole" and we used a paint with zero VOCs to make it as chemical free as possible. The print of the turtle on the wall was made by Meo's Auntie Jess. The mobile is the one he had over his crib (it has forest creatures), that I tied to the ceiling by installing a hook.
This is Meo's baby boy that sleeps near him. We got the baby as a big brother gift when we found out I was pregnant again.
He has a forest animal bed set and valance. The curtain is a thermal curtain that prevents drafts and a lot of light from entering the room while he sleeps.
He has books out on the shelves so that he has easy access to them whenever he wants. He takes advantage of this often! The stand of birch trees are ones that I painted.
This is the start of his little puppet collection. He gets a kick out of the little stories we tell with puppets, and sometimes will even pretend with them himself.
This is his little reading a play nook. The raccoon is a pastel drawing by his Auntie Sam, the alphabet print was a Christmas gift from his Auntie Jess, and the photographs are ones that I had taken. They are all mounted at Meo's eye level so that he can enjoy them.
The giant sugar maple tree around the sky light was a collaboration painting done by me and my sister Sam.
Meo's train table of course was designed around the world in the book Mattimeo, which takes place in the Mossflower woods.
Another book case where he has a tidy place to keep toys and books. He loves his animal hammock where all his stuffed animals (most of them are from Robbie and my childhood) hang out.
A lot of his toys are forest themed, including the discovery tubes I made for him, and the cute little tree stump with animal finger puppets he got from his Auntie Sam.
He has a forest themed lamp and an owl humidifier to continue the theme.
Fore a long time he had this long mirror alongside his bed. He loved looking at himself and playing in it. Unfortunatley, he went through a phase where he thought it was funny to kick it and bang things on it, and as it is not shatterproof we had to take it down to keep him safe.
Meo loves his forest room!
A special thanks to all the family and friends that have been gifting Meo with his fun foresty stuff over the past couple of years!

Nursery
Our nursery is officially completed! I have washed all the bedding, baby clothes, cloth diapers (need to be washed multiple times before use), towels and blankets. Everything has a spot and is put away. I feel very ready! I love sitting in the nursery to read; it is a really comfortable room with great lighting. It will be nice to hang out with the baby in there!
The theme for the nursery is "tree tops". We chose this theme for a couple different reasons. Primarily I love animals and nature, second because we like the colors green and brown together, and thirdly because we wanted something that represented Maine. All the animals that are in the tree top theme (foxes, squirrels, blue birds, turtles, bears, owls, frogs, raccoons, etc.) are found in Maine. We do have a couple other random animals featured in the room (like a tropical snake and crocodile), but those we had before and are lacking a better place to put them in our apartment for now. The walls were painted with an eco friendly paint (check out this post "Painting completed") in the color guacamole. Here are some pictures:
Thank you again everyone for your wonderful shower presents and for helping to make this nursery possible! <3
