| Link excited to go to the farm! |
Today we took Link and Meo to Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport. At four months old, this was Link's very first trip to a farm! We wanted to make sure we got there to see this years lambs before they got really big. Meo was a little nervous at first, but he warmed up to the animals fairly quickly this time. Link was wide eyed and appeared to be just taking it all in.
While we were there, we got to see some friends that we haven't seen since one of our Birth Roots classes nearly two years ago: Anita, her husband and her two boys Jacob and Max. Meo and Jacob took the class together when they were infants, but while Anita and I have been keeping in touch on the internet, the boys obviously haven't. Thus they didn't remember each other, but it was still really cool to have them together again and I hope we can meet up again soon.
Max is their baby that they had last year, so it was fun to have the little brothers meet as well. Poor Link was getting tired and hungry at this point, but I'm sure he was happy to meet a new friend.
The boys saw goats, sheep, cows, pigs, rabbits, ducks and chickens on the farm today. I was proud of Meo because he actually reached down and was pettting the chickens today, which is something he's never felt comfortable enough doing before. Unfortunately, one of the curious hens pecked his little finger which made him cry and feel frightened. I explained to him that the chicken wasn't trying to hurt him, just interested and checking him out. We'll see if that explanation was sufficient enough to make him not afraid next time we go.
Once Link was asleep in his carrier, Meo went around the barn a few more times to see all the animals. He also really enjoyed splashing in the puddles and checking out the huge tractors.
Then we decided to enjoy the day further by walking down the trail to the salt marsh to see if we could spot any marsh birds.
Some parts of the trail were dry and lovely, some parts were muddy and eroded, some parts were covered in deep snow, and yet other parts were slick with ice, so it was a little adventure on a beautiful day. Meo kept commenting about the blue sky, the big trees, and making sure mom and dad were careful going over the bridges and down the steep hills. We love when he is a sweet little chatterbox.
Meo slept on the way home while Link babbled about how much fun the farm was for the entire hour drive. Here is a video of Meo recapping our trip to the farm:
Once we got home and had some lunch, we were pretty tired. So Daddy left to play some games with friends while Meo, Link and I snuggled on the couch and watched "Frozen" (which is one of Meo's favorite movies). Little Link took a nap in my arms, and it was the perfect end to another wonderful day.
