Link's first Halloween

For Halloween, Meo and Link dressed up as the rogue Hans Solo and his best friend/co-pilot Chewbacca from Star Wars. I hand-sewed Meo's entire vest (with a total of 5 usable pockets) and added the red stripe to his pants. Link's Chewie costume was purchased. If right now you are like "what in the world, who's that?", well you are not alone. I was very surprised by the number of people who had never seen Star Wars after having to explain their costumes over and over. Here's a video for those of you who don't know the characters so that you have a general idea:

The boys are of course too young to watch Star Wars, so we educated them with these books: Star Wars The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight and Star Wars ABC. The first book is actually really well done and would highly recommend it.

During Halloween week, our music teach told everyone they could wear their costumes to class. She didn't know who Meo and Link were (nor did most people in the class) but everyone still thought they were cute. Miss Pauline got a kick out of the silliness of Link's wookie costume, and out of Meo who (for some unknown reason) sat by he and growled a good portion of class. Maybe Meo should have been Chewbacca.

We carved our traditional cat-o-lantern and Meo painted two of the pumpkins we picked from our garden.

On Thursday, the day before Halloween, we went to visit Daddy at his new work for a special Halloween event. There was food, decorations and people handing out candy at their desks.

Our usually shy-at-first Meo for some reason was a complete nut and took off running throughout Robbie's work place upon arrival, and was hard to contain thereafter. Perhaps he took his Hans Solo identity a little too seriously!

Other kids had really cute costumes too, but my favorite was the Harry Potter and Dobby costumes.

I was dressed as an Ewok. If you don't know what that is, here is a video:

Link really liked my new fuzzy ears.

On Halloween, our wonderful friends Amy and baby Marilla came to visit. Amy is every bit as crazy about animals as I am so was very excited to meet our new kitten, Moby. Marilla was happy too.

Moby loved Amy so much that he fell asleep in her arms. Actually, Amy managed to put BOTH of the babies to sleep on her lap. I guess she's kind of magic.

We did a Halloween craft with the kids by making their footprints into little ghosts. The size differences are adorable.

Then our pumpkins all spent sometime playing outside.

To wear under his costume, Link had a very special and appropriate Wookie onesie.

Robbie's friend at work happened to have a Darth Vader costume lying around and brought it in for Robbie to wear trick-or-treating. Robbie was so excited about this, and Meo thought it was awesome. He stole Vader's lightsaber and used it for good.

We decided just to go trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. Only three houses were handing out candy, but this was just the right amount. It was fun to catch up with our neighbors and have them see the boys in costume.

At home we allowed Meo to have one organic lolly pop and one mini kit-kat bar. This made for one happy, and very crazy little boy.

Link really enjoyed taking all the candy out of the pumpkins and putting them back in again.

We didn't get to go to our usual Halloween costume party that our friends put on because first it was canceled due to the host being sick, then the boys were sick the day it was rescheduled for. But all-in-all I think Link had a very fun first Halloween!
