Our little baby has transitioned to a little toddler at 12 months. Those clumsy steps just between Mommy and Daddy became clumsy little steps all around the house. He stopped crawling completely, and everyday he walks with more and more confidence...and speed! I swear he runs a little sometimes. It took us all a little while to get used to seeing Link toddle around the house; it happened so quickly. He keeps growing and growing everyday and it's all I can do to keep up and appreciate the present.
Link has said new words like "car", "hi", and "this book", but he still doesn't consistently say anything besides "Dada" and "Cat". He really loves making "Da da da" sounds right now. I think he is on the verge of expanding his vocabulary however because he has had a significant increase in babbling as of late.
He is definitely a very physical little guy and I wouldn't be surprised if he was a kinesthetic learner (Keen sense of body awareness. They like movement, making things, touching. They communicate well through body language and be taught through physical activity, hands-on learning, acting out, role playing. Tools include equipment and real objects). His favorite types of books are ones with either flaps he can flip, puppets to touch, or tabs to lift over. For the longest time, he would never sit still for books and we always found ourselves reading at him as he crawled around. But thankfully he began really loving being read to a couple months ago, and now he will walk around with a book and push it into my hand. He usually asks to have the book read to him multiple times by insistently handing it to us. I always make my best effort to stop whatever I am doing to read him a book when he does this. Link also loves music, so singing books are a well loved. Right now his favorite books are:
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? (with slides)
Baby Colors
Baby Pets
Peek-a-Who by Nina Laden
All About Me (flaps to flip)
The Itsy Bitsy Spider
In my Nest (and others in the series)
Link is very tolerant of being knocked around and played rough with. Meo bonks him into things and knocks him over daily, and almost always Link just gets right back up and is back to playing with big brother. He's also quite independent, and will often take off to go entertain himself. For example, the other day we were cooking (sometimes I wear him but sometimes he is content playing with something and I don't want to disturb his concentration) and he just wondered off and played in the music basket for nearly an hour. He was playing all sorts of instruments and "singing". It was pretty amazing. He loves to have play mates too of course, but it always amazes me how content he is to find his own thing to do if we are occupied.
Link is still just the happiest little guy. He always has a big smile, a contagious laugh, is full of kisses, and with his smooth blond hair and big blue eyes he melts my heart. He is very mischievous and knows it (has a mischievous smirk and will run off squeeling in delight when he's doing something naughty). He also had a little growth spurt and is now in the 60th percentile for height (29 3/4 in.) and 50th percentile for weight (20 pounds 8 ounces).
