We went to Kiwanis beach with our good friends. That beach is ideal because the water is actually warm enough to want to hang out and swim in, the bottom is clean, and the shore is shaded.
Penny, Sauron and Meo had a lot of fun pulling each other around with a pool noodle.
Somehow, Noelle ended up towing three of the kids around the shallows. The boys were laughing uncontrollably.
After an active day of swimming and fresh air with friends, afternoons inside are nice. The boys are relaly into playing dress-up right now, and before bed we are reading the original "Peter Pan".
Saturday
In the morning we headed north for Jacob's fifth birthday party in a strawberry field. It was as awesome as it sounds: blue skies and sunshine, fresh berries to bunch, and kids running around laughing and having fun.
Robbie cleaned the house while we were off partying (completely his choice) and we got back we went for a four mile run together. Link dressed up as batman and brought his bear puppet for the ride.
That night Robbie's sister Jess and her boyfriend Ryan came to spend a few days with us. They got there just in time to say goodnight to the boys and we had fun playing board games over a few drinks before bed.
Sunday
Nothing says good morning like kids jumping on your air mattress. Luckily Auntie Jess and Ryan were good sports.
In the morning we all hiked up Bald Pate Mountain.
Link and Meo were pretty distracted with sticks at the beginning, but eventually they got into their groove.
The summit was covered in wild blueberries.
Meo and Link kicked it up a notch on the way back and ran down the mountain.
After our hike, Jess treated us to appetizers at Freedom Cafe in Naples. There was live music and we ate out next to the lake.
Back at home we were all pretty tired. The grown up Robinson's thought they would take a nap...the little Robinson't thought otherwise.
Ryan was nice enough to allow Meo to practice with his nice calligraphy pens. Meo really enjoyed that; he liked trying to make fat and thin lines.
Reading "Blueberries for Sal" was the perfect book after spending a morning picking blueberries on a mountaintop.
Before dinner, we cooled off in the river.
For dinner we made homemade sweet potato burgers and corn on the cob then headed out to sit around a fire. It was a pretty perfect summer night full of guitar music and drumming, watching a bat flit after insects in the darkening sky, chasing and catching fireflies in our net, and roasting marshmallows for s'mores.
Monday
After a stack of strawberry oatmeal pancakes, we all headed to Lake Arrowhead for some canoeing and swimming.
We spent most of the time hanging out on an island and taking turns going on little canoe adventures and swimming. I was left alone with my little guys for a while when Robbie went back to get Jess and Ryan and I filled the time with eating snacks and taking pictures.

Moments before Robbie crashed into the beach. No one got hurt...the water was super shallow. It was however very funny and Robbie filled the canoe with water.
I took all my little guys out for a spin around the island.
Jess and Ryan took Meo on his own private adventure.
When we got back, we ate dinner at Robbie's parents house before heading home.
Jess and Ryan were driving back to Boston at that point, and we were exhausted. But Meo had been really looking forward to fireworks, and at the last minutes we figured "what the hell" and went for it. We went to Naples and met up with our friends Noelle, Tony, and their kids Sauron and Inga.
Meo adores Sauron (he's probably his best friend at the moment) and they had so much fun playing before the show started.
We were really glad we decided to go out; the fireworks were fantastic and we all had a good time. By the time we got home, both boys were sound asleep in their car seats with their hair sticking in all directions from the crazy doings of the day. The both ended up being sick Tuesday morning, and we spent the next two days relaxing and recuperating at home. But it was an awesome weekend and totally worth getting exhausted for.
