This blueberry season, we have been fortunate enough to make it out to pick with two times. Both times we went picking at
Libby & Son U-Picks, where there is a beautiful mountain view, homemade blueberry donuts, music, and over 40 acres of fruit. We especially like to go there because they have so many varieties of blueberries. Our favorites are the Patriots, they are big, sweet, and have a slight tang. Meo and I managed to eat the entire box before I got around to freezing them. So naturally, we had to go again.

The second time there wasn't as many Patriots to pick, and the ones that were there were smaller and more tart than the first time around. So we wondered through the fields and found ourselves in some really tall bushes (I think they were Blue Crop), where we found some just turning blue and they were amazingly delicious so we picked lots of those.

Blueberry picking season is definetly one of my favorite times of year. Mainly because it is the only time of year I am allowed to eat blueberries to my hearts content (they are $2.99 a pound as opposed to $5 a quart like they are in stores) and because I love the family tradition. Meo has be loving the book
Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey and we can't help referencing the book when we go picking ("Now Meo, you run along and pick your own berries, Mama is picking these to store for winter"). I think next year we will have to get him and his baby brother little tin pails.
