27 Month Old Meo (The half before he became a big brother)

Some fun tid-bits about Meo this month:

1. He speaks really clearly now, and has for quite a bit. At this point we assume he understands everything and also that he can repeat everything. There are still some words he stumbles on. My favorite is that he pronounces "english muffin" as "gink-koshe muffin". It never fails to make me smile.

2. He is taking three classes:

Music Together: This is his second session/season of his music class. In the class there is lots of singing, instrument playing, movement, dancing, learning hand movements. Though Meo doesn't always sing along in class and usually prefers to observe or run around with a goofy grin, he has certainly taken a lot in from these classes and knows his favorite songs by heart. He regularly sings and dances to them at home and requests to listen to the songs frequently. His favorite songs from this Flute Session are "Sandpiper" and "Shake those Simmons Down".

Yoga: We've been going to a drop-in musical yoga class at Spiral Tree Yoga whenever we get the opportunity. Usually the class size is very small (sometimes just Meo), but Meo loves it. He enjoys ringing the chime at the beginning of class, and joining in on all the poses. We either sing or listen to music about yoga poses the whole time and I think that really helps him to get into it.

Chinese School: Meo had is first semester of Chinese School this month. He is in a small group with other 2-3 year olds and they stick together and go to a variety of classes throughout the morning. One of his good friends Quinn also goes to Chinese school with us. They start the day with martial arts where they have been learning out to stretch, do some running and tagging exercises, crawl under obstacles, squirm across mats, and even are learning how to block, push, and kick foam pads. This is Meo's favorite class of the day. Then they have snack time, followed by art class. They've done lots of coloring of different Chinese related art. Next is language class where they've been learning different Chinese words and phrases mainly through song. Meo's memory is amazing (much better than mine) and will randomly start singing songs we've learned when we go home. They also play with blocks that have Chinese characters on them. The final class is dance, and they are learning little simple routines to some cute Chinese children's music.

3. One day when Meo was fighting a nap, I decided to tell him a story. Usually we read a book (or two or three or ten) before he lays down, but that wasn't enough this particular day. So I decided to try to make up a story while he closed his eyes and laid down beside me. He liked this so much that from that day on every time he goes to sleep he asks us to tell him a couple of stories. We've gotten pretty darn good at making up little stories, if I can say so myself.

4. This month he started sleeping with stuffed animals. He usually sleeps with his chipmunk and Eeyore, but lately has been also sleeping with things like planes, LEGO towers, and trucks.

5. Meo has started improvising his own songs. He's pretty good at it too!

6. Meo has been playing pretend a lot now.

7. He regularly runs up to me and says, "Mama, I love you soooooooooo much!"
