Meo's first time fishing
When Meo's third birthday was fast approaching, my brother asked me if I thought Meo would like to go fishing with him for his birthday. At first I hesitated; our family is vegetarian and fishing isn't really something we do or necessarily want to encourage. BUT my side of the family is really big into hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and riding motorcycles and we don't want Meo to miss out on an opportunity to bond with his uncle even though we don't share a lot of common interests. So after a long discussion Robbie and I decided the benefit of Meo spending time with his uncle to do a little catch and release fishing was slightly greater than the potential harm to the fish, so we said okay. So on Meo's third birthday, Uncle Brian, Meagen, Bryce and Cheyanne got Meo his first fishing pole and some fun tackle. And a week later, we went on Meo's first fishing adventure.
Link spent the fishing trip crawling around, chewing on sticks, and climbing on me to nurse. But Meo was an enthusiastic fishermen. Uncle Brian showed him how to put a worm on, showed him how to cast, and how tell if a fish was biting, and how to reel the line in after snagging one.
Meo may have talked Uncle Brian's ear off. When Meo is comfortable, he has A LOT to say and A LOT of questions. But Uncle Brian was very patient and had fun teaching his enthusiastic nephew.

They managed to catch two fish that day: a sunfish and a perch. The sunfish Meo realed in all by himself! He didn't want to touch the fish once he got it, but he did a great job reeling it in and had fun watching it swim away.

It was a beautiful morning at Ossipee Pine park and I think Meo will have fond memories of time spent with his uncle for a very long time. Thanks for a great birthday gift!
