Visiting Great-Grandpa for the last time

When we decided to take a spontaneous road trip to Belfast to visit my Great-Grandfather, I certainly did not think it would be the last time. He had started getting more and more forgetful so my Grammy went to go live with him to help him out. While we visited, he stayed in his chair the whole time but still was in great spirits, full of smiles while watching the boys play, having conversations with us, and he even joked around a little while pretending to arm wrestle Meo.

I feel very fortunate to have had my great grandfather in my life for so long. I feel even more blessed that both of my children were able to laugh and play with their great-great grandfather...pretty amazing I think. He was a kind man who always had something funny to say. He inspired me to pursue my love of animals. I will always remember visiting "the farm" when we were younger and hoping to grow my own food some day. He passed peacefully in his sleep at the old age of 91.

George Edward Littlefield

George Edward Littlefield, 91, of Belfast, passed away at home on January 10, 2016. George was born May 16, 1924 to George E., Sr. and Myra (Fogg) Littlefield in Avon, Connecticut. He served in the Army during World War II and then worked in construction for many years, always a hard worker. He was a 32nd degree Mason and had been a member for over 50 years. Most importantly, he was a loving father and grandfather.

George was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Janice (York) Littlefield; brothers Roy and Kenneth Littlefield; and sisters Doris Ward and Belle Hawes. He leaves behind his children: Juanita St. Onge of Saco, George D. Littlefield with wife Stella of Waldo, and Clyde D. Littlefield with wife Evon of Las Vegas; his brother Ralph Littlefield with wife Renna of Belfast; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

A private burial will be held by the family in the spring.
