Halloween Happenings 2016

This year my guys wanted to go as Toothless and Stormfly the Dragons from "How to Train your Dragon". I made their costumes using fleece and felt.

The goal was for Robbie and I to dress up as vikings (Hiccup and Astrid or Hiccup and Camicazi if we went book route), but I didn't have time to pull things together this year. Meo said I could just go naked and tie some rope around myself...I said probably not. I think this is what he was going for:

Mom to Mom Halloween Party

This was our first year attending this big party and it was a lot of fun. There was food and a Mad Science show, and the kids got to make their own glow in the dark slime.

Meo and a couple friends ran around playing in the rain.

The kids even got balloon animals. Meo, Link and their friend Soren chose swords and had some epic duels. Link decided to duel with some random little boy he saw with a sword.

This costume got a lot of use already! Meo especially has been wearing it all around!

Storybook Theater Class

In Meo's Theater class they put together a quick play all in one class for practice with a Halloween theme. The play was Rumpelstiltskin, and Meo was the King.

Art with Friends

During our weekly art session at our friends' house we made bats and spiders for Halloween decorations. Meo was so proud of his, they will probably be displayed in our house long past Halloween.

Earth School

At our homeschool co-op, most of the kids wore costumes all day the session before Halloween. The teenagers also made a special "haunted house" for the little kids. It was really cute to see them led and and showed around the room. They even made them little ghosts from organic lollipops.

Visiting Daddy's Work

Meo gets very excited about visiting Robbie's work every year for Halloween. They get lots of candy, get to see where Dad sits all day, and they have yummy food out for everyone. This year they had a big monster mouth to throw balls into which Link couldn't get enough of.

Oh and they decided to dress up as The Flash and "Thor Captain America" (as Link called himself) to switch things up a bit.

Spooktacular with Riverview Martial Arts

Meo's martial arts place throws a big Halloween party every year. This was the first one we were able to go to. We had a make-up class in the morning, then were able to visit some friends who live nearby before the party started. They are so fun together.

At Spooktacular the kids had a blast. They made ghost rattles, yarn pumpkins, ate yummy food, played games, and danced.

Link's favorite thing to do was to shake the pumpkin full of balls as hard as he could so that balls flew around everywhere.

Pumpkin Carving

Robbie and the boys worked hard to carve out some pumpkins the day before Halloween. Normally we do it way before that but we have had next to no time at home together on the weekends and this was our first opportunity! They will hang out for a while after the holiday I guess.

Community Potluck

The monthly community potluck we go evolved into a Halloween party this month which was pretty awesome. The family who hosted did a great job of putting together fun games and activities for the kids and had tasty adult beverages and a toasty fire going.

Halloween!

Halloween day was low key, which was just what the boys and I needed. I attempted some pancake art in the morning and made pumpkin shaped pancakes.

We took Pippin for a walk in the woods and chased leaves that were raining from the sky. Then warmed up inside and watched "Monsters Inc".

At night we went Trick-or-Treating with our wonderful friends the Hamill-Brown family. This is our third year going with them, and its nice because it's close by, there are plenty of houses but it's not overwhelming or scary. The boys love trick-or-treating and have no problem running enthusiastically to each door to say "trick-or-treat".

I'm not sure when Halloween became a month-long celebration but it certainly felt like it was this year. Maybe it's my fault because I put together a Halloween playlist on spotify and started playing it in the car on October 1rst. It was a fun filled month, that's for sure.
