Swim class fall 2016 for Meo and Link

This fall we signed up for swim class at Saint Joseph's College. It's much closer to us and we had heard that the program is excellent. It also aligned best with our schedule. I made sure to sign up within minutes of sign-ups opening because the classes fill up really fast. I'm glad we did because I think it was a great experience for the boys. They both had lessons at the same time.

Link

Robbie went in the pool with Link for the baby/toddler class. Link is a fish; he loved this class. He is fearless jumper, and enthusiastic kicker, and very confident swimming around on just his pool noodles. Robbie was a little nervous because in previous swim lessons the boys have worn flotation bubbles. This time they didn't and Link is very bold in the water. But Link did a great job and he had a lot of fun. He was always excited to go swimming.

Mattimeo

This class was a big step for Meo for several reasons, but they were good steps in the right direction. The first was that I wasn't allowed in the same room as him, so all these pictures were taken behind a big glass window that all the parents hung out in front. This was the most difficult part of class for Meo. Previously I've been sitting in a chair right near the pool and that helped him to feel safe. The first day of class he was so terrified that I wasn't right there that he cried and was yelling for Mama and I felt horrible not being able to comfort him. Once he realized that Robbie was over in the other half of the pool though he relaxed and had fun. The other big step was not having the bubble flotation device and the pool having a deep end. He was able to swim back and forth over and over again using pool noodles and started to develop better form. In this class he also practiced gliding to a teacher without any flotation devices at all.

Meo was certainly much more nervous in this swim class; he was quite comfortable in his last one. But he felt proud after class and I think he needed a little push out of his comfort zone in order to actually learn how to swim. I feel like this class will get him swimming very soon.
