Our Linky-Loo is 4 years old!
This year he has grown in so many ways. Probably the biggest way is that he's learned how to express himself better. Instead of pushing or grabbing he is able to use his words to ask questions and to tell people how he feels. He is growing into a very empathetic little boy with big feelings and it's wonderful to be able to hear what is going on in his head. He loves his brother fiercely and will protect him even if we are scolding said brother for not being fair to Link. He has NO problem speaking up for himself to anyone though. They are both very imaginative and could entertain themselves all day in their own little world if I didn't have anything else planned for them.
Link started preschool (home school) this year and he loves it. He is always excited to sit down and do school work. He is usually the one to run over to the shelf and pull out everyone's supplies. He knows all the letters of the alphabet and can almost count to 100. He is already starting to write and enjoys drawing and coloring. He actually has some artistic talent and often surprises us with how well his drawings come out. He enjoys learning new songs and memorizing poems. He loves playing with modeling dough, is a great help with cooking, a fantastic story teller, and a beautiful song composer. He is still so very musical. He sings all the time, and if I am having trouble getting him to pay attention I just sing directions to him and he instantly tunes and will respond back in song. We make up songs together all the time. Throughout the day he takes breaks to sit down and listen to music, sometimes while flipping through story books, other times resting his had and just listening. He is quite patient and persistent and has a great ability to keep working on a difficult task for a long time without getting frustrated.
Link has been doing the little dragons martial arts class and now has a yellow belt. While he often has a hard time standing still (he hops in place) and sometimes gets distracted and darts off, he loves his classes and his teachers. And if he is paying attention, he does a great job. He always looks forward to martial arts class! This year he also has been enjoying regular play dates with friends and does well with a wide age range of people.
On the day Link turned four, all of us took a trip to the Boston Aquarium together. Link had not been since he was a new baby and we thought it would be a place he would really enjoy; and he did. He got a brand new car seat and got to sit facing forward for the first time too!
His favorite part was the touch tanks.
After the aquarium, we met with Auntie Jess who bought us all pizza for lunch and showed us where she works.
The boys love seeing their Auntie!!
When we got home, we began a new tradition. We got him a wooden birthday ring and decorated it with a moon (since he was born on the full beaver moon) and a pumpkin (for an autumn birthday). Then we told him a story from each year he has been alive and lit a candle after each year. When we were done, he blew out the candles and we celebrated with a cupcake.
We also gave him our presents. This year, we invested in a beautiful Haba marble track. It connects with his other ball track and gives him more possibilities for building.
The next day we celebrated his birthday with friends and family. He wanted a Zelda themed birthday party with a bouncy house. Since we can't have a bouncy house in our yard with our crazy pups, we decided to have the party at the bounce zone. He asked for strawberry cupcakes, so I made some with fresh strawberries and decorated them with heart containers in true Zelda fashion.
A bokoblin, a korok (I made) and Link also joined the party.
Link wore his Link costume and had the time of his life.
Thank you so much everyone for coming. There were so many friends and so much love; it was the perfect party for our Linky!
After the party we had pizza with a few of our friends then we all took our dogs for a much needed walk in the woods.
When we got home, Link opened all the wonderful gifts he got form his party. Thank you so much everyone! He is a very fortunate little boy!
