| Real hugs at 14 months |
Mattimeo certainly has a lot of personality, and he has been the cause of much glee and laughter this month. Don't worry, we aren't just laughing at him, he is laughing too! In fact, I sometimes think Meo does silly things to amuse himself. Here are some of the silly things he's been doing lately:
Walking backwards, sideways and spinning in circles
Now that he has gotten really good at walking, he has been all about experimenting with new ways to walk. It is so fun to see him practicing his new skills; especially when he starts spinning around and around to the point that he makes himself dizzy and falls over. It's really funny to see him get up and try to walk around after too!
Moving things from one container to another
He is very meticulous about this. He seriously can spend hours taking out things from one container, moving it to another, then taking them out again and moving them someplace else. He seems to be very attentive to detail while doing this and never overlooks and object. It is very interesting to watch him!
Collecting items to drop over gates
He especially likes to put objects over the gate that blocks the staircase down to the basement. These objects include toys, books, his shoes, our shoes, tupperware, jackets, sweatshirts, hats, mittens, pieces of his wagon, and whatever else he can find. In our room downstairs he has started taking out my clothing from the shelf, as well as opening his dresser and taking out his blankets, sheets and pajamas, only to put them over the gate blocking him from the rest of the basement. I've been very busy picking up these piles several times a day.
Sweeping
He is really into sweeping the floor these days. Unfortunately the broom is way to big for him and this leads to lots of items being knocked of shelves and counters as he clumsily makes his way through a room. I ordered him a small broom last night though, so that should help.
Sleeping half on his bed
Many nights and even during his naps, Meo has been rolling part way off his bed so just his head and chest are resting on his mattress and the rest of his body is on the carpet and blankets next to his bed. I am not sure if this is on purpose or not, but he seems pretty comfortable this way and will sometimes sleep hours at a time like this.

Likes to help dress himself
He is great about putting his arms through his sleeves, and will sometimes bring me his shoes when he wants to go outside or we are getting ready for a walk then will sit on my lap so he is ready to have them put on. Sometimes he tries to but shirts over his head, and this is quite comical because he doesn't have the coordination yet.
Likes to climb in his wagon and be pushed around
He likes to bring his truck in with him most of the time too, which we thing is pretty silly.
Loves to snuggle the cats whenever possible
Especially Buddy, mainly because Buddy tolerates him the most.

Being silly in the bath
This is nothing really new; he has always been a lot of fun in the bath. But the funny stories Robbie tell me are always changing. This month he is really into drinking water from his bath toys that squirt water, and laughing hysterically as he tries to wash dad's face with a wash cloth. He also loves to splash.
Other new things developmentally this month that aren't necessarily funny but still interesting nonetheless include:
- Becoming more proficient using a spoon
- Is able to pick up his water bottle and drink water from a straw very well
- Has gotten a little shy when we first arrive at places, but warms up after a half hour or so
- Has said "help"
- Is getting better at pointing to objects and colors in his books when I ask him too
- Is starting to play with his stacking blocks and cups properly, at least a little bit
- Gave me a real hug (as opposed to snuggling into my neck or chest with his head) for the first time.
- Is starting to follow directions very well (such as "please eat that" or "put that in this box")
And now, for your pleasure and mine, here are some more photos of my 14 month old sweet boy.
