One Year Professional Photography Shoot

I finally got a chance to go through the professional photos we had taken of our little family last month. Initially I had asked our friend Kate of Kate Crabtree Photography to take our photos since she had done our maternity (you can see those here and here) and newborn photos (which you can see here), but her business has taken off substantially in the past year and she no longer has time to do family portraits (she focuses on wedding photography and senior portraits now). While I am very happy for Kate, I was bummed that she couldn't take our photos since she does such an amazing job. Trusting her judgement, I asked Kate if she had any recommendations for a family photographer. Boy am I glad I did! She suggested Kristina of Kristina O'Brien Photography, and since her pricing is very reasonable and the portfolio on her website looked great I decided to book a session with her.

Kristina is a very sweet and gentle natured woman, so she was a joy to work with and we felt very comfortable. She has a child not much older than Mattimeo, so it was fun to share parenting experiences together. She did offer some direction every now and then and suggested spots within our chosen locations that would photograph well, but for the most part she just let us be ourselves and explore. I think this is an excellent way to be photographed as it results in the most natural looking products. Kristina was very prompt with putting up teasers on her Facebook page and blog (within a couple hours!) which we were very appreciative with, and not too long after we got a beautifully packaged USB stick with nearly 200 high quality photographs! We are very pleased with our experience and hope to use Kristina O'Brien Photography for future sessions!

We chose to do our photos in two locations: Gilsland Farm, and Mackworth Island. We were fortunate with very nice weather and great lighting. It was difficult to choose which photos we liked best (we still have to decide which ones to print and put on our wall), but here are our favorites (Mattimeo is 13 months old in these photos).

We walked underneath a turkey perched in a tree during our shoot, and Meo kept pointing at him hehe.
