Link's Second Birthday Party

Link's second birthday party was a monster truck themed party. Say What?! Yeah, I am not really a monster truck person. Link however is OBSESSED. This all began when Daddy showed them a video:

And thus our lives were forever changed. Link sings this song on loop to himself most days. He plays with monster trucks all day long. He just loves them. So naturally we needed to create a monster truck party for him. Both boys wore new monster truck shirts for the occasion. Link's was extra special because it had his name on it and the number two.

Here are some photos of the decorations and food:

We bought every kid a little monster truck so they could play with it at the party and take them home with them after. That ended up being a lot of fun!

For food I made a big dish of baked wheels pasta and cheese, pumpkin monster truck cookies with cream cheese frosting, fruit in color order of a street light, a donut cake from the Holy donut to mimic spare tires, a bowl of apples, lemon water, and hot apple cider.

We spontaneously bought this monster truck ramp when we ordered the little monster truck toys. It ended up being a big hit at the party!

The party ended up being an indoor/outdoor party. Inside people primarily played monster trucks on the ramp. I was amazed by how well all the kids took turns with the ramp...no one ever fought! Way to go kids! There were 12 kids there in all.

We had 20 trucks music playing, which Link really loves, and he spent some of the time just chilling on the floor listening to it.

Outside, Robbie and the boys put together a little obstacle course. It was super cute watching the kids run through it...some of them got way into it!

We also had a HUGE leaf pile to play in.

There was some playing in the sandbox and the swingset.

And there was some wheelbarrow fun...both of the small and larger persuasion.

Robbie gave quite a few wheelbarrow rides to the kids and he laughed later at how cute it was when he pushed the girls around and they just squealed the whole time. I think the wheelbarrow rides were one of the highlights of the party.

Then it was time to go back inside for cake. I made a raspberry and ricotta cheese cake topped with a raw chocolate icing (made entirely of dates and organic baking cocoa).

Clearly, the children were excited for cake!

We opened just a couple presents before people left, but Link was quite tired and having trouble paying attention so we told everyone we would open presents later on when he was rested and could enjoy it.

I felt bad not opening gifts with people because I know they want to see him open the things they chose for him. Thank you for being understanding! I took lots of pictures so that you could still share in the moment to some degree.

We were quite lucky to have a special visit from Auntie Jess while opening presents. She was unable to make the party but was able to spend the afternoon and dinner with us before heading back to Boston.

I think the party was perfect for Link, if I can say so myself. He was just so happy and having a great time. And he loves all the people who were there to celebrate with him. We are so grateful for everyone to have helped make the day so very special to him and all of us.

Here are some videos of the boys the morning before the party getting psyched up!

And here they are enjoying some of the presents they got at the party. By the way, we played monster trucks all afternoon. Can never get enough monster truck time I guess.
